Bio

About me: Social scientist using the entire toolbox to understand why people do they do, and how to change it. Data viz is my love language.

Here’s some projects I’ve had fun with:

  • Building prediction models of citizen conservation behavior in 12 countries for National Geographic.

  • Beating the best election forecasts by adding candidate’s Wikipedia pageviews to a custom prediction model.

  • Testing how digital ads perfectly tailored to the psychology of a target audience can cause large shifts in real-world opinions on climate change in 2 congressional districts in just 30 days.

  • Helping a billion-dollar renewable energy company land a major energy development deal using a custom consumer behavior study.

  • Interviewing advertising execs of Fortune 500 companies to understand and improve UX of a SaaS ads tool.

  • Designing and executing what is (so far) the largest and most rigorous analysis of crypto user behavior, and seeing it covered by Forbes and Fox Business.

As a co-founder of XandY I help organizations discover insights about consumer sentiment and behavior. Our clients rely on us to use those insights develop and evaluate new strategies for growth and progress.

As a professor at UC I publish scientific research on consumer psychology, human behavior, and communication science — as well as manage research teams and teach courses in research methods and communication strategy.
